Austria has no plans to withdraw from the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project despite the threat of US sanctions.

This was stated by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, UNIAN informs.

“Austria is not going to leave the Nord Stream 2 project, and OMV (Austrian oil and gas corporation) especially. A lot of money was invested in this second gas transit possibility. Of course, we will stay,” said Van der Bellen.

According to the head of state, if American gas will be cheaper than Russian, then the position could have been changed, but there is no economic reason for this so far.

As The Journalist reported, U.S. Senate ready to impose sanctions against Nord Stream-2 construction companies.
