The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov has said that patients likely to be infected with coronavirus will be transported in a special ambulance helicopter.
According to the minister, the Mi-8 ambulance helicopter, specially equipped for transporting infectious patients, will be on round-the-clock duty at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
This helicopter participated in UN peacekeeping missions and the last time operated in the Republic of Mali. It was handed over to the State Emergency Service under the terms of a gratuitous contract. The crew and medical staff of the helicopter consist of physicians who have undergone special training.
“These people worked during the Ebola epidemic: they performed evacuation of patients and carried out rescue operations. A helicopter can take 4 to 6 patients during one flight. Evacuation on it is possible at a distance of 1200 km, that is, throughout our country,” Avakov said.
The helicopter is still operated by the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine under a special contract with Ukrainian Helicopters. Specialists are ready to work on it in the most difficult conditions.
The helicopter is also equipped with an insulating capsule BIO-BAG EBV-30/40, bioprotective kits, a disinfecting shower, an isolation chamber and a special module in which the capsule is fixed during the flight.
Today, total temperature screening takes place at almost all checkpoints, including entry/exit checkpoints on the border with the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Border guards have a protocol of clear actions if they detect a person with signs of illness at the border, the minister said.
As The Journalist reported, Lviv, Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia oblasts be the first to receive COVID-19 detection systems.
