Belarus public debt significantly increased

The public debt of Belarus in the first three weeks of protests in the country, which began on August 9, increased by 10.5%. This was stated in a press release from the Ministry of Finance of Belarus.

As of September 1, 2020, the Public debt in Belarus amounted to BYN 57.8 billion, BYN 13 billion or 29.1% increase compared to the beginning of the year. According to the ministry, the external public debt as of September 1, 2020 amounted to USD 17.7 billion, having increased by USD 0.6 billion (taking into account exchange rate differences), or by 3.6% from the beginning of the year.

At the same time, the domestic public debt as of September 1, 2020 amounted to BYN 10.6 billion, having increased by BYN 1.8 billion (taking into account exchange rate differences), or by 20.6% since the beginning of the year.

Protests against the falsification of the results of the presidential elections on August 9 continue in Belarus.
