In January, the Belarusian Oil Company will buy a batch of Norwegian oil produced at the Johan Sverdrup field. The deal was concluded amid disagreements between Moscow and Minsk over energy prices, which resulted in cut off oil supplies to Belarus in early January. This is reported by DW.
Norwegian oil will be delivered to Belarus via the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda. The Breiviken tanker, loaded with 80,000 tons of oil, is expected to arrive in Klaipeda on January 22. Oil will be delivered to the Novopolotsk Refinery (Naftan) by rail from there. Local media clarify that the railway supply of oil from Klaipeda to the Novopolotsk refinery will cost Minsk about USD 20 per ton, which is much more expensive than transporting fuel through oil pipelines.
Belarusian side is going to continue negotiations on further deliveries after receiving the first batch of oil.
As The Journalist reported, Russia may need to increase gas transit through Ukraine.
