The leaders of the states and governments of the countries – members of the European Union agreed on the candidacy of the Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel for the presidency of the European Council.

It should be noted that he will replace Donald Tusk on this post.

It is also known that Michel was elected the new president of the European Council for the period from December 1, 2019 to May 31, 2022.
