Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Volodymyr Borodiansky has said that the bill on fake news does not provide for imprisonment, Espreso reports.

To Borodiansky, the low stipulates for criminal liability if during the year there were three cases of misinformation. Moreover, law’s criminal liability is limited only to community service.

“In order to make a decision on sentence, the court is obliged to apply and obtain ECHR conclusion. We provided certain provisions in law so that a conscientious person could not be imprisoned. No conclusion – no sentence,” Borodiansky said.

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Desir, expressed concern about a number of provisions of the Ukrainian bill on countering misinformation aimed at actually controlling the media during the period of Russian aggression. Earlier, this bill was also criticized by the European Federation of Journalists.
