The UK is the first Western country to start a mass vaccination program against the coronavirus. Reports CNN.

Vaccinations will begin with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. The process is complicated by the need to store this vaccine at -70 degrees and give each patient two doses three weeks apart.

Residents of England, Wales and Scotland will receive the first doses of the vaccine. At the same time, Northern Ireland announced that it will begin the introduction of the vaccine at the beginning of the week, but did not specify on what day. First of all, residents of nursing homes and hospice workers will receive the vaccine. Also, people over 80 years old and health workers are a priority for vaccination.

In turn, UK health officials expect up to 4 million doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine by the end of December, which provides up to 95% protection against coronavirus. So far, the country has bought 40 million doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which is enough to inoculate 20 million people or a third of the country’s population.
