Prime Ministers of Greece and Bulgaria Alexis Tsipras and Boyko Borisov, announced the start of construction of a gas pipeline worth EUR 240 million to reduce Sofia’s dependence on Russian gas, Ekathimerini reports.

“Bulgaria has started building a EUR 240 million gas pipeline with Greece that will end the Balkan country’s total dependence on Russian gas and help diversify gas supplies in southeastern Europe,” the report said.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister noted that this project is of strategic importance not only for Bulgaria and Greece, but also for the whole of Europe, including the countries of the Western Balkans.

As The Journalist reported, the United Kingdom will replace Russian gas with Norwegian.
