On August 11, the Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Chernyshov met with the Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Sector Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Georg Christodorescu.

The parties discussed the issues of activities of the sectoral group with the participation of donors in the field of energy efficiency and heat supply, informing about the results of the GIZ project “Reforms in the field of energy efficiency in Ukraine” and the pilot project of thermo-modernization of the building of the Ministry of Regional Development.

Mr. Chernyshov thanked for the consistent and comprehensive support of Ukraine provided by the Federal Government of Germany through the GIZ bureau, in particular, the GIZ energy efficiency and climate protection sector, for active cooperation in increasing Ukraine’s energy independence and the implementation of relevant international technical assistance projects. The minister noted that examples of the transformation of the coal regions of Germany is indicative for Ukraine, as well as its experience and knowledge.

During the meeting, was presented a new GIZ project “Promoting Energy Efficiency and the Implementation of the EU Directive on Energy Efficiency in Ukraine”, which will be implemented in three directions: the implementation of the EU Directive on Energy Efficiency No. 2012/27 / EU into Ukrainian legislation, reducing energy consumption in partner communities and improvement of qualifications in the field of energy efficiency, including energy auditors and representatives of the construction sector.

“The implementation of energy efficiency is one of the key factors in the country’s security. The government will continue to reform the energy efficiency sector in the future. Currently, we are developing mechanisms for Ukraine’s accession to the “European Green Agreement”, which provides ambitious goals for the implementation of energy efficiency in buildings and heating systems. Therefore, the new project “Promotion of Energy Efficiency and the Implementation of the EU Directive on Energy Efficiency in Ukraine” comes here in time, since it will contribute to solving modern challenges and issues of energy efficiency development in Ukraine,” Chernyshov said.

In his turn, Christodorescu thanked the ministry for the fruitful cooperation and noted the need to continue the implementation of Article 5 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive No. 2012/27/EC on improving energy efficiency in public buildings. He also noted that energy efficiency should become a way of life for every Ukrainian.
