The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) stated that Ukrainian officials implemented a large number of corruption-related schemes with the help of companies registered in more than 23 countries.
«The international direction is one of the key in the work of NABU, as many corruption-related crimes are implemented with the participation of companies registered abroad. The geography of these business entities currently covers at least 23 countries on three continents,» – the press service of the NABU reports.
To conceal illegally funds, Ukrainian corrupt officials choose states with a simplified registration system, complicated procedure for disclosing information and a high degree of confidentiality.
«Damage done to the State interests with the participation of such foreign counterparts is estimated at UAH 1.84 billion, USD 22.07 million, EUR 12.03 million,» – the report said.
NABU sends requests for international legal assistance to competent authorities of other states to obtain information about the ultimate beneficiaries of such structures and on the movement of funds stolen from Ukraine. Since the beginning of the investigations, the Bureau has sent 371 such requests to the authorities of 61 states. 182 requests have already been fulfilled.
