On March 14, the exhibition “Chloé Couture” opened at National Art Museum of Ukraine. This first event of its kind is intended to present fashion industry primarily as a sphere of art. And the best ambassador of this message than the French fashion house Chloé is hard to come up with.

You do not need to be a fashion expert to see at first glance that the thirty clothes presented in the exhibition are real masterpieces. Every groove, every button, every seam, every fringe – everything is in its place, everything is impeccable. Although presented dresses, jackets and coats are a retrospective, they are not placed in chronological order. There are models of both the 1970s and 2019, which were not previously demonstrated to public.

It may seem strange to someone that icons are displayed nearby, in another hall of the museum, but such events abroad have already become traditional. For example, in Victoria and Albert Museum in London, an exhibition dedicated to Christian Dior is currently taking place.

All models were chosen by the creative director of the Chloé Archive Geraldine-Julie Saumier especially for the exhibition in Kyiv. The initiator of the event was Kristina Khranovska, a representative of Chloé in Ukraine.

For more than half a century, Chloé clothes have been synonymous with femininity and elegance, and at the same time courage and brightness, sophistication and glamour. After all, most of the couturiers, who had creative relationship with Chloé, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Hannah MacGibbon and Natasha Ramsey-Levy (who heads the house now) are often inspired by the visual arts, graphics and photos. Therefore, along with models certain images are exhibited, thanks to which they were born. The highlight of every model is that each of them has a name.

“For me, elegance is the opposite of boredom, conservative chic and obviousness in style. For every woman, the concept of elegance must be born again. This is a balance between who we are, how we live and what we wear,” Karl Lagerfeld once said. The great fashion designer is undoubtedly right. By the way, there are a lot of his works at the exhibition.

As part of an artistic fashion project, lectures are planned on the history of fashion, in particular about Chloé house, and discussions on fashionable topics. The exhibition runs until March 28 inclusive.
