The Committee to Protect Journalists urged Volodymyr Zelensky to make press freedom a priority, as Hromadske reports.

It is noted that in recent times a number of Ukrainian journalists have faced repressive attacks for their activities, which indicates deterioration in press freedom in the country.

“Impunity in the killings of journalists has a negative impact on the country’s press, especially among journalists who deal with potentially sensitive and controversial issues”, the committee said.

The committee recalled that they had repeatedly urged the Ukrainian authorities to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet and to bring those responsible, including the organizers, to justice. In addition, the organization called for the release of Kyryl Vyshynsky, the head of the bureau of the Russian state information agency RIA Novosti in Kyiv. Also, the Committee to Protect Journalists called on the President to facilitate the release of Radio Svoboda freelance journalist Stanyslav Aseyev.

Earlier The Journalist reported that journalist Yulia Mendel became press secretary to the president.
