US President Donald Trump suggested an invasion of Venezuela. This is reported by the Associated Press, citing the US official familiar with what was said.

According to the source, the American leader made this proposal in August 2017, during the discussion of the sanctions against Venezuela.

«With a fast unraveling Venezuela threatening regional security, why can’t the U.S. just simply invade the troubled country?» — President Donald Trump asked his top aides.

The question stunned those present at the meeting, including national security adviser H.R. McMaster and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, both of whom have currently retired. This account of the previously undisclosed conversation comes from a senior administration official familiar. They warned Trump about possible negative consequences from the military actions.

Later Mr Trump discussed «military option» again with the president of Colombia as well as on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

As «The Journalist» reported earlier, Trump offered Macron a bargain in exchange for France’s withdrawal from the EU.
