Exarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate gave Poroshenko a letter from Patriarch Bartholomew

On September 17, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has met with Exarchs [Exarch is the title of the Head of a separate church district in the Orthodox Church and Catholicism – ed.] of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Ukraine, Archbishop Daniel of Pamphylia and Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton.

«Ukrainians have prayed for hundreds years to have a Ukrainian Single Local Orthodox Church. The Lord heard our prayers. It’s nice that for the last three years we jointly have passed this way and reached the home stretch. Such a Сhurch will become a symbol of the unification of the Orthodox faith and the Ukrainian state. This is another great state foundation for our country,» – said the President.

In turn, the Exarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate noted that they are ready for fruitful cooperation and have already appointed several meetings with representatives of religious organizations in Ukraine.

In addition, the Exarchs gave Poroshenko a letter from the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in which he congratulated Ukrainians for believing in the process that would lead to spiritual prosperity and independence of Ukraine.
