Estonia represents Eastern Europe in the UN Security Council from January 1. The country guarantees that the issue of occupation of Ukraine will always be on the agenda of the UN Security Council. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the UN Sven Jurgenson, Ukrinform reports.
“The issue of the occupation of Ukraine, in particular Crimea, is of outmost importance today, and we will try to keep it on the agenda constantly. This is the most pressing issue,” the message says.
Jurgenson also mentioned the situation in Transnistria and Georgia.
“We also have other potential conflicts on the agenda – if you look at Transnistria or the occupation of part of Georgia. But the Ukrainian issue is the most pressing one at the moment,” Jurgenson said.
Since January 1, 2020, the UN Security Council has included new non-permanent members: Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia, Vietnam and Estonia, which will represent the Eastern Europe region. Until now, this role has been played by Poland, and even earlier, in 2016-2017, by Ukraine.
