Estonian Internal Minister of Affairs, the head of the conservative party EKRE, Mart Helme at a meeting of interior ministers in Luxembourg, said that Estonia will not accept asylum seekers from the Middle East.
He also complained about problems with immigrants coming from Ukraine.
Helme said that most European countries have shown reluctance to accept new migrants and offered only technical assistance.
To ERR Estonian broadcaster, Estonia is now facing a very strong influx of immigrants coming from Middle East and former Soviet Union countries.
“When we look at it, asylum seekers do not come to from the Middle East or Africa, but from Ukraine. Second place was Georgia, then Moldova, and only then came Afghanistan and such countries,” Helme said.
To Interior Minister, Estonia has enough problems with immigrants coming from Ukraine, something which countries in southern Europe have little experience of.
“We are still struggling with this immigration pressure, and we don’t see much understanding for us. Ukrainians are more likely to integrate into the Russian-speaking community and for us it is a cultural and demographic problem. Even if someone says that this is not a problem, then in fact it is a very serious problem. If we start to opening second and third front to take Latin America, Venezuela, the Middle East and even from sub-Saharan West Africa, we have no power,” Helme convinced.
The Interior Minister emphasized that as long as the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia are in government, Estonia will not accept migrants.
As The Journalist reported, Estonia does not recognize Russia’s passports issued to Ukrainians in occupied Donbas.
