Federica Mogherini, Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, officially announced the nomination of Estonian diplomat Matti Maasikas for the position of head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, who will replace Hugues Mingarelli.

This is stated in the message on the website of the European External Relations Service.

The appointment of a new EU ambassador to Ukraine in 2019 takes place on a rotational basis. He will be officially appointed after receiving an agrémen.

Now Maasikas is the Deputy Minister for EU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.

As The Journalist reported, the European Council proposes appointing Spanish Foreign Minister instead of Mogherini.
