The future EU ambassador to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, is in favor of a tough EU approach to Russia, European truth reports.
The report notes that the planned replacement of the ambassador has no connection with either the European or Ukrainian elections.
Matti Maasikas is currently the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia. He headed the Estonian representative office in the European Union from 2011 to 2016, and then returned to Tallinn to the post of deputy minister for European affairs.
“The threat coming from Russia is quite real … We must be firm in our policy towards Russia and not deviate from it,” Maasikas says.
The future EU ambassador to Ukraine is actively interested in Ukrainian politics and events in Ukraine.
As it is known, Matti Maasikas’ personal signature is under one of the important documents for Ukraine: in 2017, during the Estonian presidency in the EU Council, he, as a representative of the board, signed a decision on granting trade preferences to Ukraine.
As The Journalist reported, after the elections to the European Parliament, Ukraine will remain a priority partner for the EU.
