Ukraine risks losing donor funding if amendments to the law on mine action will not be approved.
This was stated by the US Embassy in Ukraine.
“Mines are the No.1 threat to civilians in eastern Ukraine. The the Verkhovna Rada must pass the amendment to allow continued direct donor funding to demining NGOs. Otherwise Ukraine risks losing donor funding and more lives will be at risk,”the report says.
Note that the bill (No.10180) on amending the Law of Ukraine “On Mine Action in Ukraine” regarding to improve the mechanisms for attracting financing for mine action activities was registered on March 22 on the Verkhovna Rada website.
The draft law proposes to introduce norms that allow mine action operators to attract financial resources directly from donors. Under such conditions, the funds are not subject to transfer to the special budget of the state budget.
