The Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine stated that the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU) of October 27 on aspects of anti-corruption legislation has far-reaching consequences for the entire anti-corruption infrastructure of Ukraine, which was created after the Revolution of Dignity in 2014.

“In addition, this decision casts doubt on a number of international obligations that Ukraine has undertaken in relation to its international partners, including the EU. The fight against corruption is one of the key indicators and commitments undertaken by Ukraine under the Association Agreement, the recently approved macro-financial assistance program between the EU and Ukraine and the visa liberalization process,” the anti-corruption spokesman said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the EU noted the complexity of the situation and the urgency with which the president and the government are trying to solve this problem.

“We call on the Ukrainian authorities to restore the legislation on electronic declaration of assets and corresponding work of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption as soon as possible. We also call for the stabilization of the legal status of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine until December 16, the deadline set by the Constitutional Court. There is still a need for full-fledged judicial reform for the benefit of all Ukrainians. We call on the President, Government and Parliament to work together to find a comprehensive and sustainable solution. The EU is ready to support its Ukrainian partners in this endeavor,” the EU Delegation said.
