The European Union has signed an agreement with the American company Johnson & Johnson for the purchase of up to 400 million doses of coronavirus vaccine that has not yet passed clinical trials. This was stated by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“As the coronavirus spreads rapidly across Europe, we guarantee vaccine doses to protect our citizens. We signed a contract with Johnson & Johnson. This will give us the opportunity to purchase up to 400 million doses of vaccine,” the politician said.

According to the head of the European Commission, this is the third pre-order contract for the vaccine. The first two contracts were signed with AstraZeneca and Sanofi-GSK. Also, the European Commission is preparing contracts with three more companies – CureVac, Moderna and the BioNTech consortium – Pfizer.
