In addition to the floating craft, the rescuers of the State Emergencies Service in Donetsk region received three trailers for their transportation and specialized equipment for working on the water. This was reported by the UN press service.
Rescuers will be able to use the new equipment to work along the coast of the Azov Sea, in particular in Mariupol and in the Mangush region, in order to more effectively patrol the sea area and quickly respond to potential hazards. In particular, boats will be involved during rescue and search operations to rescue people in danger on the water.
In addition, rescue teams will use boats to transport divers to explore and clean up areas of the seabed, as well as to quickly locate and eliminate situations that pose a threat to the environment, such as oil spills at sea.
“Public safety is a key component of the EU’s support in eastern Ukraine, and we are delighted to continue to expand our cooperation with the SES. The transfer of equipment for rescue units operating in the sea is another practical step necessary to improve public safety and protect citizens living along the coast of the Sea of Azov,” said Martin Schroeder, Head of Local and Human Development at the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.
