The European Parliament supported the European Commission (EC) proposal on providing the introduction of new rules for issuing EU visas for the short-term stay of third-country nationals, the press service of the EC informs.

According to the new rules, the deadline for submitting an application for opening visa in advance of planned trip extended up to 6 months instead of the current 3 months. In addition, travellers have the possibility to fill in and sign their applications electronically. Children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old may be exempted from the visa fee.

Also the maximum validity period of a multiple-entry visa increasing from 1 year to a maximum of 5 years. In this case will be increased the size of visa fee (from EUR 60 to EUR 80).
