The EUR 500 bills (purple), which considered to be one of the most expensive banknotes in the world, will no longer be printed in the European Union.

Eurozone central banks stopped issuing EUR 500 bills in January. Germany and Austria were allowed to print banknotes for a while: Berlin and Vienna could issue them up until today, Bloomberg reported.

Such a decision was made due to the fact that the criminals most often forged exactly this banknote. However, the purple bill is still a legal tender and can be used as a means of payment.

As The Journalist reported, the NBU introduced into circulation a new UAH 500 bank note.
