Raiffeisen Bank Aval senior analyst Mykhailo Rebrik has said that the Ukrainian national currency will return to the range of UAH 24-25 per dollar in 2020, with a possible weakening to UAH 26 per dollar by the end of the year.
The situation in the foreign exchange market can be greatly aggravated by such force majeure events as the failure to sign a cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund, the threat to the independence of the National Bank, the growth of social tension due to political decisions in the context of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, as well as in the case of a significant increase in volatility in global financial markets.
“According to the base scenario, which does not imply the implementation of these force majeure, we expect the current account deficit in Ukraine to expand to USD 5.7 billion with a more modest increase in the financial account surplus in 2020. As a result, we expect the hryvnia to return to the range of UAH 24-25 against 1 USD with a possible weakening to UAH 26 per dollar by the end of 2020,” UNIAN quotes expert, as saying.
