Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine should find a solution to introduce dual citizenship, but it does not apply to certain categories of Ukrainians and states. He said this on the air of the program “Right to Power”.
“The question of dual citizenship is the matter of discussion, there are different people who support this idea, there are those who do not support. I personally think that we should find a balanced solution,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
Kuleba noted that the situation has changed since the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine in the 90s and introducing the common citizenship. During this time, millions of Ukrainians went abroad, but in the future they want to remain citizens of Ukraine.
According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the presence of dual citizenships is unacceptable for civil servants, representatives of the authorities, and also there cannot be dual citizenship with the aggressor state.
“I do not represent here the position of the state, commenting on this. I, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the person who sees this problem, want to emphasize that we here in Ukraine must find a balanced solution for this matter, so that the Ukrainians scattered all over the world have the opportunity not to break the ties with their homeland,” Kuleba said.
