Director of GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon said that the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom in recent weeks has increased gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) to almost a maximum of 294 million cubic meters per day.
“In recent weeks, Gazprom has increased gas transit through Ukraine to almost a maximum of 294 million cubic meters. It can be concluded that Gazprom is making every effort to minimize the need to withdraw its gas from European UGS facilities by increasing deliveries through Ukraine with a view to selling it later at higher prices,” Makogon said, emphasizing that prices will undoubtedly be higher if Gazprom stops transit.
After Gazprom’s proposal to extend the transit contract for a year, it seems that the Russian monopoly does not plan to continue transit through Ukraine after January 1, 2020.
