German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen has said that the German Embassy will establish closer contacts with mayors of cities after the local elections in Ukraine, since decisions on investments and investment projects in connection with decentralization will be made locally, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“We have always had, and now we will have even closer contacts with mayors, because due to decentralization, decisions on investments and investment projects will be made locally. German companies are interested in investing more here. Before the coronavirus epidemic, we saw more and more investment questions coming from Germany, although now there is a slight lull,” Feldhusen said.
According to the German diplomat, there are many companies in Germany that have production in India or China, but at the beginning of the lockdown they saw how difficult it was to get the goods produced there. German entrepreneurs see Ukraine as a possible place for the production of, for example, medicines, because Ukraine has a developed pharmaceutical sector.
“I think that further we will be even more in contact with mayors in order to understand where there are ideal conditions for German companies. Therefore, the embassy will also monitor how they relate to the rules of the game. Our companies don’t want anything special, just the same rules of the game for everyone. We will see these mayors unfairly support, for example, groups of friends or really top investment candidates. I personally want to raise the level of German investment, because it is simply sad that almost nothing has been done in this regard in recent years,” Feldhusen said.
