Germany is trying to reach a settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine through diplomatic efforts, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said.
In particular, the minister was asked to comment on the statement that many crises in the world cannot be resolved without Russia’s participation, although in fact Russia itself is the cause of these crises.
«The war in Syria would probably have ended long ago, if this was the goal for Russia and other countries,» – confirms Mr Maas.
Also, the politician agreed that the same thing can be said about the east of Ukraine, writes UNIAN news agency.
«In both cases, the result depends on the fact that there will not be a settlement of the conflict if Russia does not to cooperate. That is why Germany plays a major role in efforts to resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria. In both cases, we try to achieve something through diplomatic channels,» – Maas stressed.
