The increase in gas prices for the households may become a forced step to prevent an economic disaster and poverty caused by problems with servicing Ukraine’s foreign debts.

This was part of Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman speech, which he voiced out in the Verkhovna Rada.

«I’m telling you responsibly: I don’t want to raise gas prices. This can only be a forced step in order to prevent the economic catastrophe and poverty of Ukrainian citizens. I will ask for consultations with the faction leaders on this issue, and I will show several scenarios on which we can go,» – he said.

According to the PM, the lack of support from international partners who advocate a market mechanism for pricing and establishing a single gas price can lead to serious problems with the payment of external debt, and ultimately, to the poverty of Ukrainian citizens.

«Already, inflation is slowing down, prices remain more stable. But if we cannot service external debts, we will have huge problems that are not to be felt by the oligarchs, but, as always, ordinary Ukrainian people,» – Groysman summed up.

As «The Journalist» reported, gas costs in Ukraine are expected to increase 25 percent by the end of the year.
