On November 25, head of the National Health Service of Ukraine Oleh Petrenko has submitted a letter of resignation.
“Today I have signed a letter of resignation from the post of head of the National Health Service of Ukraine. Voluntarily. I hope that in the near future the government will support it,” Petrenko said.
According to Petrenko, the reason for his decision is “a difference between his fundamental values and that of the team which is working on the transformation of the health care system.”
“A lack of common understanding of a goal, complications in procedures, common responsibility and a regular search for simple solutions in difficulties do not help us to find common ground language and constantly turn into a stumbling block,” Petrenko emphasized.
The official believes that National Health Service of Ukraine should become a single national strategic purchaser of medical services and medicines under the medical guarantee program, with the ground rules for everyone and a transparent distribution of funds.
“This is one of the types of compulsory joint medical insurance. It works in many developed countries. The healthcare system of Ukraine will be able to face the challenges only in this status. National Health Service should not act as the “accounting” under the Ministry of Health,” Petrenko said.
As The Journalist reported, Ukraine ranked 94th in Global Health Security Index.
