Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk promises to change chiefs of customs officials in all oblasts because smuggling never stopped.

To Honcharuk, he had met with the American Chamber of Commerce representatives and heard that businesses see one of the main problems in the country in smuggling. In this regard, the head of government, together with the head of the Customs Service, Maksym Nefedov, visited to one of the most problematic areas in terms of smuggling – Chernivtsi.

“We understand that smuggling never stopped there. All those reports on the confiscation of hundreds of pairs of slippers and dozens of champagne bottles as a demonstration of their crazy fight against smuggling, of course, did not impress us at all. We will do everything as quickly as possible so that the customs leadership across oblasts change,” Honcharuk said.

He also noted that the premises of the Customs Service in Chernivtsi are rented from a private person, whom experts affiliated with one of the local clans involved in smuggling.

Among other problems, Honcharuk named checkpoints, which never opened, while funds for their construction were being “systematically siphoned.”

“Therefore, all these bugs, of course, we will have to fix. By the end of the year, we will clearly know what needs to be done so that the infrastructure on our border allows us to put smuggling to an end,” the prime minister said and added that he had instructed the head of the Customs Service within two weeks to prepare a strategy for the development of the entire customs infrastructure and put into operation previously purchased stationary cargo scanners.

As The Journalist reported, Ukrainian PM says heating season subsidies will not be cut this year.
