Brazil court adds 13 years to ex-president’s sentence

A Brazilian court of the city of Curitiba ruled to extend sentence for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to a further 12 years and 11 months in prison on charges for corruption and money laundering, Globo reported.

Lula da Silva received a house and land in São Paulo in exchange for promoting private companies. According to the documents, the owners of the house were people close to the politician.
Earlier, the former president of Brazil was sentenced to 9.5 years on another corruption and money laundering case. In January 2018, the Supreme Court extended his sentence to 12 years and one month. In April 2018, he began serving his sentence in Curitiba Prison.
