The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Yuriy Lutsenko, has stated that if the court recognizes convicted in absentia former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych as guilty in the case of treason, all his property in Ukraine and abroad would be confiscated.
«I will not trying to predict a court decision [regarding Yanukovych – ed.], let’s wait for it. What is the meaning of correspondence condemnation processes? First of all, the sentence against a citizen who is not on the territory of Ukraine, has not only moral, but also material value,» said the Prosecutor General.
Lutsenko noted that now the court is considering cases not only in relation to Yanukovych, but also in respect of dozens of former high-ranking officials from his closest environment, in a correspondence procedure, reports the Pershiy Zakhidny Lviv TV channel.
«Now as for material side of the question: if the court finds someone of them guilty in especially serious crimes, then it will entail confiscation of all known property in the territory of Ukraine and abroad. If even after some time such property will be found, it will also be subject to confiscation; that’s why such processes are very important in material terms. Therefore, from my point of view, this process is diligently delayed by the Yanukovych’s defense,» the prosecutor general added.
As The Journalist reported, Court invited accused Yanukovych to Kyiv to hear his last plea on November 19.
