The mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began its work in Ukraine on May 21, arriving in order to assess the Ukrainian reforms that the government has pledged to undertake as part of the cooperation program, Hromadske reports.
The IMF mission will work in Ukraine for two weeks. During this period, the Fund’s representatives plan to hold a series of meetings with Ukrainian officials.
According to the results of the work, the Mission will decide on the readiness of Ukraine to receive a new tranche worth USD 1.3 billion.
Recall among the IMF requirements to Ukraine were the following:
– equalization of gas prices for the population with market prices;
– reform in the banking sector;
– reducing the size of the state budget deficit;
– introduction of criminal liability for illegal enrichment, which the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional.
In addition, representatives of the EU will work in Ukraine, who decide on to extend the macroeconomic assistance program and allocate a new tranche of EUR 500 million. At the same time, the key condition for the EU on providing the tranche is continued Ukraine’s cooperation with the IMF.
As The Journalist reported, IMF representatives will arrive in Ukraine with an assessment mission.
