This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in her weekly video message.
According to Merkel, the financing of the German armed forces for many years was insufficient. At the same time, the Chancellor stressed that the volume of funds allocated for defense needs has been increasing for several years.
In particular, in the budget for 2020 for the Bundeswehr is planned for € 2 billion more than this year. However, this amount is less than that for which the Minister of Defense of Germany Ursula von der Lyayen stands for, writes DW.
According to Merkel, additional funds will allow to acquire more modern equipment and perform more new tasks.
Recall that Germany, like other NATO members, has committed itself by 2024 to bring allocations for defense to 2% of GDP.
