Groups of young people wearing gas masks and black scarves on their faces approached the monument to the Unknown Soldier and climbed the marble staircase leading to parliament.
The men began throwing cobblestones and bottles at the policemen, who in turn tried to disperse them using tear gas.
Law enforcers detained 133 hooligans at the central square of Syntagma: 10 of them were subsequently arrested for attacking government officials.
Street protests in Athens will resume today, because the parliament will vote on an agreement with Macedonia.
