The United States will significantly increase the number of air force squadrons in connection with the threat posed by Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China for Europe and the other world, the US Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said this at the conference in Washington, The New York Times reported.
According to the Minister, the increase in the number of the US Air Force is necessary to match the rapidly changing situation in the world.
«To meet the world as it is, with rapidly developing adversaries, the Air Force must have by 25% more operational squadrons, than now,» – Wilson said.
The Minister stressed, that there should be 386 air force squadrons in the US. At the same time, according to her, at the moment there are only 312 of them.
Wilson noted that the number of bomber squadrons should be increased by five, spacecraft squadrons by seven and search and rescue squadrons by nine. Also, 22 additional squadrons must carry out control and reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance tasks, and another 7 squadrons must replenish military drones.
The Minister stressed that the implementation of this task requires the training of about 717 thousand pilots, and «America to find funds, necessary for this task.»
