On September 22, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell during his visit to Ukraine met with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reports.
The parties agreed on positions on a wide range of issues on the eve of the 22nd Ukraine-EU summit, which will take place on October 1 in Brussels.
“We have a very intensive, dynamic dialogue with the EU, and the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU is the goal of our reforms,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister stressed.
According to Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine remains loyal to the reform agenda.
“We are interested in the functioning of an independent anti-corruption infrastructure in Ukraine and will continue economic reforms that will contribute to the gradual integration of the Ukrainian economy into the EU internal market,” the Foreign Minister assured.
The High Representative expressed support for the reform program in Ukraine aimed at implementing the European integration course of the Ukrainian state. He also confirmed the readiness of European partners to continue providing the humanitarian assistance to the eastern regions of our state in the context of a pandemic.
“We do this not for reasons of charity or as a non-governmental organization, because the EU is a political organization. Our common interest is that by helping Ukraine, we are helping ourselves. We are very interested in a prosperous, democratic and stable Ukraine,” the head of European diplomacy said, adding that the EU firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and the EU policy towards Russia remains unchanged.
“The EU sanctions policy towards the Russian Federation will be maintained until Moscow fully fulfills its obligations under the Minsk agreements,” Josep Borrell stressed.
The Ukrainian side also acquainted the EU with new initiatives for the de-occupation of Crimea, in particular the new international consultative format “Crimean Platform”. The parties discussed ways to support this initiative by international partners.
