The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the allocation of UAH 28 million to the State Space Agency of Ukraine (SE Ukrkosmos) to pay the cost for a judicial settlement in the London Court of International Arbitration of a dispute with the Canadian Company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Corporation within the project of «Creation of the National Satellite Communication System.»

This is stated in the Government’s order of July 26.

Thus, the decision of the London Court of International Arbitration in favor of the SE Ukrkosmos will provide an opportunity to complete the project of creating the National Satellite Communication System «Lybid», which «will ensure the information independence of the state, increase its security in the information sphere.»

INFO: In 2009, the State Space Agency of Ukraine and the Canadian company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) signed a contract on creation of the National Satellite Communication System «Lybid». The MDA was acting as the main contractor for the creation of the system. The project was financed with a USD 254.6 million Government Loan from the Canadian Export Agency (EDS), in 2009. Initially, the launch of «Lybid» was scheduled for 2012, but the launch dates were repeatedly shifted for technical reasons.
As The Journalist reported, the court confirmed the legitimacy of imposing a fine on Kyivstar Company for deception of its subscribers.
