Angela Merkel said that the German government intends to support Italian authorities on the issue of refugees in Europe. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.
It is reported that after meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, parties reached a common decision on close cooperation on migration crisis.
It is noted that Germany will support Italy’s desire to help migrants from Africa. Also, the Chancellor reminded that EU countries need to beef up Frontex (EU’s external border police – ed).
Merkel said that it is necessary to examine the possibility of carrying out «activities related to the legal issues of granting asylum applications» in Africa and, in particular, in Libya.
Mr Conte added that the Italian government highly appreciates Germany’s actions on more equitably distribute of the migration burden among the EU members. Also, the prime minister suggested to revise Dublin regulations.
This part of the EU law determines in which EU country the asylum requests should be considered. Previously, this happened in the country where the migrant first applied to register their asylum application or first arrived in the territory of the European Union.
As «The Journalist» reported earlier, Italy, France call for refugee processing centres outside the EU.
