Kyiv Mayor Vitalii klitschko has said that the government should urgently develop and offer mechanisms for compensation and benefits for business, reports the Kyiv City State Administration.
According to Klitschko, the key objective is to preserve the health and lives of people, so Kyiv will comply with the government’s decree on the so-called weekend quarantine.
“Yes, it is [weekend lockdown] not ideal and causes many questions. But with such a dynamic spread of the virus, the medical system will soon be unable to cope with coronavirus patients surges. And we understand that the only alternative to break the chain of disease is a complete lockdown. But at the same time, we understand that it is very important to prevent economic collapse, the closure of businesses and enterprises. Because people have become poorer during the pandemic. Therefore, the government must urgently develop and offer mechanisms of compensation and benefits for business,” the mayor said.
Klitschko stressed that Kyiv introduced such a set of measures to support small and medium-sized businesses in March, and now the city will reconsider the possibilities – what it can do to support business and preserve jobs.
“We don’t want complete lockdown [to be imposed]! And today, during talks with the Prime Minister, I also emphasized the importance of controlling the isolation of patients and contacts in order to stop the wave of the spread of the virus. Because, unfortunately, the Diy Vdoma system does not work. We have many examples when infected and contact persons continue to go to work, school, visit public places,” the capital’s mayor clarified, urging everyone to observe basic safety rules.
