Talks with Gazprom on Russian gas transit via the territory of Ukraine after 2019 may resume after the presidential elections in Ukraine.

This was announced by the head of the National Joint Stock Company ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’, Andriy Kobolyev, in an interview with TSN.ua.

“As far as I understand, Mr Šefčovič [Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič – ed.] wants the talks to take place immediately after the presidential elections in Ukraine, and I think that they are likely to take place in early May. I think they [Gazprom] have something to talk with us about. They have a difficult situation with Nord Stream 2, they need to think about how to transport gas after 2019, they definitely interested in holding this talks,” said Kobolev.

“Will they be ready to negotiate before the final announcement of the results?” I think no. But as soon as the results of presidential elections became clear, they will agree to the negotiations,” the head of Naftogaz noted.
