The head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Andriy Kobolyev, said that this year Gazprom will pay about USD 2 billion for the transit of Russian gas through the gas transmission system (GTS) of Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“I think this year the amount of payment will be close to USD 2 billion,” Kobolyev said, adding that the “take or pay” principle enshrined in the contract during the economic crisis is important for the country in terms of obtaining guaranteed income from the provision of transit services.

Recall that the contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom envisages transit in 2020 of at least 65 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, which in daily terms means 178 million cubic meters.

Transit should amount to 40 billion cubic meters in 2021-2024. Payment for the indicated volumes is guaranteed even in the case of less pumping through the Ukrainian GTS.
