US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch spoke about expectations from the presidential elections in Ukraine, reports the US Embassy in Ukraine.
“There is no need to tell you that Ukraine is entering a critical period related to upcoming elections,” said Yovanovitch.
According to the ambassador, "only Ukrainian people should choose the path of the future for Ukraine."
"Whom does the United States support in this election?" I do not think that you will be surprised if I say: we will support Ukrainian people,” stressed Yovanovitch.
“As the presidential election season progresses, we in the United States share the expectations of Ukrainian people: that “titushki” will not be part of this election; that people involved in election campaigns should not be afraid of being beaten or harassed; that it will be impossible to buy votes in villages; that Russians or any of the candidates do not use disinformation to blur the truth, and that the conditions for the full participation of all citizens of Ukraine are properly secured,” Yovanovitch stressed.
The US ambassador is convinced that the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians are united by sustained support for three priorities: the end of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, a successful economy and a government that works for Ukrainians, respects their rights and treats all citizens equally in accordance with the law.
