The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has approved a draft resolution in which the 1932-1933 Holodomor is recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This is reported by the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States on its Facebook.
«The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has approved and recommended for approval by the upper chamber of the American Parliament a resolution in which the 1932-1933 Holodomor is recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people,» – the statement said.
In this regard, it is said that the draft condemns the systematic violations of human rights, including the right to self-determination and freedom of speech, committed by the Soviet government against the Ukrainian people.
The embassy said that the resolution, co-authored by more than two dozen senators, was presented on March 14, 2018 by a group of senators from the Republican and Democratic parties, led by co-chairs of the Group of Friendship with Ukraine in the US Senate, Robert Portman and Richard Durbin.
As The Journalist reported, President of Ukraine thanked American Ukrainians for their efforts in issue of recognition by states of the Holodomor as genocide.
