The confiscation of the assets of fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych is impossible.
“Confiscation of the assets of the accused as a form of additional punishment could not be imposed,” the Prosecutor-General’s Office (PGO) answered to the Ukrainian News request.
The Article 111 (treason) of the Criminal Code was amended with confiscation of assets on October 7, 2014, while Yanukovych committed his crimes before the relevant amendments were made to the Criminal Code, and the amendments are not applicable retroactively.
