The first president of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, said that the former president of Georgia, the ex-chairman of the Odessa Oblast State Administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, to whom the president had returned Ukrainian citizenship, would benefit Ukraine.

Kravchuk said this on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.

“I think that, above all, for Zelensky there is a moment of justice and a moment of dignity. After all, we remember how Petro Poroshenko granted citizenship to Saakashvili — he very quickly granted it and very quickly deprived him of it. I am convinced that in this provision and deprivation absolutely did not concern the national interests of Ukraine, just Poroshenko’s personal interests,” said Kravchuk.

According to the ex-president, Poroshenko allegedly was sure that Saakashvili would add him rating, but his ambitions were not liked by the former head of state.

“And all the insinuations around Saakashvili had nothing to do either with the law on citizenship or with the position of President Poroshenko. Therefore, President Zelensky restored justice by restoring Saakashvili’s citizenship,” Kravchuk believes.

Also, the former head of state is convinced that Saakashvili can benefit Ukraine.

“Does President Zelensky need him? Saakashvili has a lot of experience – experience of reforms at a time when situation in Georgia was extremely difficult […] there are different estimates, but still people positively evaluate Saakashvili’s activities. I think that he will benefit,” said Kravchuk.

At the same time, he noted that “there is one moment.”

“The president must always work in his own land, in his homeland. When he migrates to another country, he is an emigrant, whether he wants it or not. Therefore, I do not think that Saakashvili can claim high position in Ukraine,” added Kravchuk.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky returned to Saakashvili the Ukrainian citizenship.
