Law #187-IX that allows the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) to tap phone calls regardless of the Security Service of Ukraine came into force. The day before, the law was published in the parliamentary newspaper Holos of Ukraine.

The document entitling the National Anticorruption Bureau and the SBI to retrieve information from transport telecommunication networks, which effectively entitles them to wiretap. At the same time, NABU was allowed to hire unofficial employees.

The so-called ‘Lozovoi’s amendments’ on the procedure for calculating and extending the terms of pre-trial investigation, the appointment and conduct of an examination and the possibility of appealing a notification of suspicion, adopted in 2017, have been removed from the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

In accordance with the text of the document, the right to appeal a report of suspicion is retained.

As The Journalist reported, NABU opened criminal proceedings against former Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko.
