French President Emmanuel Macron supported the proposal of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to hold a meeting of the Norman format (Ukraine, France, Germany and Russia) at the highest level in the near future.

To the Presidential press service, Macron said this during a telephone conversation with the president of Ukraine.

“Emmanuel Macron expressed full support for the initiatives of Ukraine, agreed on the need to hold a summit in the near future, which should be preceded by a meeting of official representatives of all four parties,” the report says.

Macron assured that he would contact Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to coordinate the given initiative.

The President of Ukraine informed his French counterpart about the deaths of four Ukrainian troops as a result of the shelling.

Zelensky noted that it wasn’t the first shelling by the enemy aimed to disrupt the peace process initiated by the Ukrainian side.

Zelensky also informed the French president about his conversation with Putin, during which he urged to fulfill the obligations concerning ceasefire, return of sailors and other captives.

The President of Ukraine urged the leaders of the Normandy Four to convene immediately to preserve the peace process and coordinate next steps aimed at final resolution of the conflict.

On August 19, Macron will intend to discuss with Putin the need to achieve concrete results in the Normandy format to resolve the situation in Donbas.

As The Journalist reported, President held meeting with military leadership.
